This is one of the first posts I wrote when I first began to doubt my beliefs. I’m reblogging a couple of these as a reminder to myself of where I came from and how far I have come.

Out From Under the Umbrella

Sometimes when I pull up old posts it can be quite a trip down memory lane. Then I see names of people who participated at that time and I miss some of them. 🙂 Almost always I think to myself, ‘Did I say that?’ It seems on one hand to be another person, another lifetime and on the other hand it seems like yesterday. Does the dichotomy ever go away?

Hmm…I don’t know, Zoe. I’m thinking it probably doesn’t. Wounds heal but the scars remain, eh? And, yes, some of the things I wrote I really did LOL about! 😀
I do miss the names in the comments. DagoodS, HeIsSailing, Paul Sunstone, just to name a few. And whatever happened to Evangelically Incorrect? I’ve seen Exrelayman pop up on a few blogs lately. I wondered what happened to him.

Speak of the devil! Have noticed your comments a few places also. Figured that avatar was you and the lanky brit, in view of D’Ma having related her story via Ruth. So clicked on avatar and arrived here.
You and Zoe and Doug all became less active bloggers and I moved on to more active ones. At the same time I became less active posting comments, having had all I can stand of the profitless confrontations with the Beckys and Unklees while also eschewing the ‘amen, well said’ and ‘that sounds like my experience’ kind of fan boyism. As a rule I don’t say anything unless I have something I think will inform or entertain the blog host and/or her/his readers.
So Hi!, nice seeing you again. It seems you have greater confidence in where you stand than when ‘gullible’ was a part of your blog name. Good for you. Will check in a little more often now that you have started posting more. But my patience wanes as I age and I usually just skim quickly and pass on unless something grabs my interest – referring to me happened to do that – still a bit of ego left, I guess.
You might enjoy the Finding Truth blog. It is very like Godless in Dixie. Those two have my utmost admiration and envy for their well reasoned and well presented posts, their zeal to actually do what they are doing, and their energy, patience, and tolerance (lacking in me) in dealing with those still indoctrinated by the institutionalized superstition that this nation is drowning in.

Well, hello Exrelayman! Nice to hear from you! I did wane in my blogging for a bit. I’ve returned to a little more activity now. DougB moved. I don’t know if you knew that.
I enjoy both Finding Truth and Godless in Dixie along with a few more “newer” blogs. When I first started doubting there only seemed to be a few, HIS, DagoodS, and Zoe. Now there seem to be quite a few more, which is encouraging.
Yes, I am more sure of myself now. The further removed from fundamentalism one gets the more they can see how crazy it all is. Whew!

This is not written by Jesus. You have been tricked by Paul and the Church in the name of Jesus-the Christ. As a Christian one should have followed the core teachings of Jesus.

Nothing in the Bible was written by Jesus.
I don’t mean any offense but it takes a good trickster to know another. In my opinion anyone shilling supernatural beings is a trickster.

AND we’re not even sure what Jesus said. 8 NT scriptures attributed to Jesus have already been removed from many modern day bibles because over the past 100 years we have found older manuscripts which do not have these verses. A majority of modern bible scholars have determined these scriptures were added at a later date probably by redactors . Bibles which still publish these scriptures at least provide footnotes to this effect. BTW the missing “Red Letter” scriptures are : Mt 17:21, 18:11, 23:14, Mk 7:16, 9:44, 9:46, 11:26, Lk 17:36
In addition you have entire stories not found in older manuscripts. Mk 16:9-20 the “Ascension Story” Lk 24:3,6,9,12,36,40, 51 & 52 have been termed dubious and unlikely as they do not appear in earlier and more reliable manuscripts. Also John 8:1-11 “The Woman caught in adultry” for the same reasons.
I think the ones who have been tricked according to paarsurrey are the ones who still feel the bible is the word of god.

paarsurrey is am Ahmadi Muslim. He doesn’t believe in the divinity of Christ. He does believe he is a prophet. Either way, we have no way to know what Jesus said.

It does not mentions of an unloving One-True-God.
I think you did not make any study of comparative religions under an appropriate principle; you just joined Atheism out of convenience.

The Bible is an awfully big book that says a whole lot of things which were and are attributed to God, himself, and Jesus. So if you’re going to tell me that out of all the rest of the words in the good book just boil down to those few, why not just tear those out of it and throw the rest of it in the trash. There would be no need of Christianity, Islam, or Judaism.
My atheism is not the result of anything remotely convenient. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. It is most inconvenient. Maybe you should refrain from voicing ignorant assumptions.
