God Honors Laws of Man

From my facebook files:

Man can create laws, but God already has his laws in place and there is no higher court capable of overturning or revising those laws. Make no mistake…God will not honor any laws created by man. Have no fear, He is still on His throne! And He still loves all sinners….me included.

Dear facebook friend,

It is fortunate for you that what you have been and done for your whole life isn’t illegal. That somehow makes your past not so…sinful. Sure, you’re straight. But you got knocked up out of wedlock. And, like me, you’re divorced and remarried.   And, really, I think you have that whole thing about God not honoring the laws of man all wrong.  Your Good Book says:

Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.  For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended.  For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.  Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.

This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.  The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”  Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.  Romans 13: 1-10(NIV)

Sounds like God approves of marriage(that’s what we’re calling it now).  So please stop making the baby Jesus cry.  Show your neighbors some love and respect, will ya?

  3. I don’t have any issues with gays marrying. If, as Christians, we want to save the Institute of marriage… We need to make divorce illegal… Right? How many of those that are against gay marriage are divorced ?!
Also, one argument is now that gay marriage is legal, next thing is changing the age of consent. (not because gays want children… Thought I should clarify that) but some say, if we allow same sex to marry then eventually we will allow pedophiles to freely have sex with children. I don’t think that will ever happen but there is that mindset that thinks it will.
I do want to add, I do feel it’s wrong for gay couples to force churches to marry them. They should respect the churches opinion on homosexuality and marry in a liberal church or other facility.

    • I saw an article equating pedophilia and beastiality to homosexuality with regards to the law. I don’t think that will ever gain any traction. I think it’s a shame and a sham, but fear is a huge motivator. What those on the opposing side fail to recognize is that proponents of gay marriage are not in favor of it simply because people love who they love. It has everything in the world to do with consenting adults. Many, MANY, gays and lesbians were sexually abused as children(not that that has anything to do with their sexual orientation), as have so many heterosexuals. NONE of the gay/lesbian people I know are in favor of legalizing pedophilia.

As for gay couples forcing churches/pastors to marry them? I don’t think that will ever happen. There are freedom of religion laws in place to prevent it. Again, fear sells.

Granted that is in the UK, but will it happen in the US? I’m for gay marriage, but I feel it’s wrong to force/sue churches to perform gay ceremonies.

I’m for birth control, but I feel it’s wrong to force churches to offer it.

Christians fight back because they are afraid of the slippery slope. Liberal groups should respect religious instutes ethics.

        • I agree with you about not forcing churches to perform gay ceremonies. Though I do think there are some churches who would welcome and gladly perform such services, I don’t agree with forcing them to if their beliefs don’t allow for that. It is important to remember that suing someone or an organization in no way means that the plaintiff will win said case. I also believe when these kinds of suits are brought that if the plaintiff loses they should be responsible for the court costs of those they’ve sued. All in all, though, even in the US if a suit like this were brought I think that the separation of church and state that our laws have afforded will keep such a thing from happening. And those who have been screaming that the Constitution doesn’t provide for it will suddenly be naming it and claiming it. I have said for a very long time that separation of church and state benefits everyone and that churches should hold to and honor it as much as the government should.

          • The only thing, a few lawsuits like this could close a lot of churches. Even if the churches win the case, they lose because they have to close their doors from bankruptcy.
I try to defend some of my more liberal opinions (lol I don’t have many) but it’s tough when I read articles like this.

Oh, I read another article how groups are trying to change pedophilia as a sexual preference and not a disorder. And of course that looks like the slippery slope. I’ll look for the link and share it.

          • I understand what [some] people are saying about the pedophilia slippery slope. I just don’t think that’s a very large number of people. And comparing the two is not a true parallel. As is not the beastiality link. There is no similarity whatsoever. The argument for same-sex marriage has little to do with letting people love who they love. While that is an element of homosexual relationships that is not the measure of why it should be granted legal status. As I told someone yesterday, marriage is a covenant – an agreement between two(or more) parties who have the capacity to enter into such an agreement. Children and animals do not qualify as parties having the capacity to do so. That really is the clincher. As far as I’m concerned there is no slippery slope. I would never and will never support such.

          • I agree with you 100%. It’s that all parties have to be able to consent, obviously children and animals can not consent.
It would be great if one day (if this battle happens) you have gays and straights on the same side. We can’t lower the age of consent!!

          • I think you will be very surprised to find this to be the case. I know several gay people and they are greatly offended to be associated with the pedophilia movement. There is not one of them who would approve or lobby for anything other than age of legal consent. I think it is because Christians, in particular, view homosexuality as depravity and perversion that this comparison ever even gets made. Because surely if one is perverted enough to be homosexual they’re likely to want to have sex with children and animals, too, right? Sigh…

I also think this partly comes from the Catholic priest sexual abuse scandal. Sexual abuse has nothing to do with sexual preference. It’s an abuse of power. Plain and simple.

          • Another point I make frequently…. Not all child molestation is same sex. So to lump homosexuality with pedophilia is wrong.

          • And as for these lawsuits causing churches to go bankrupt? I’m not sure that will happen either. It is my opinion that this would be a rare occurrence and my hope would be that a judge with any sense and understanding of the Constitution would dismiss any such case.

I will say that I find that to be different than, say, a flower shop or baker refusing service. A church and a business should be two different things and unless a business is an explicitly Christian business catering only to Christians I don’t see an out for them giving service in a discriminatory manner.

  4. Seneca was right and I paraphrase, religion is thought to be true by the masses, known to be a fraud by the educated and found to be useful by the governors.
The author of those verses knew how to get people to submit to authority, even to tyrants.

    • Well, if you think back to the story of Moses and the ten commandments you can see that quite clearly if you aren’t looking through god goggles.

    • I’m not entirely sure that was the intent, but when people of different opinions all congregate and are able to say things they wouldn’t say in a face to face conversation most anything is bound to come out of it.
